Penobscot beavertail paddle

160,00

This traditional beavertail paddle needs little introduction. It is an absolute classic originating with the Penobscot and Passamaquoddy from southeast Canada. The relatively large blade with the wide tip makes it the perfect paddle for shorter trips. The paddle pulls smoothly through the water while the wider blade gives good impact resistance.

All our paddles are made to order, expect a delivery time of ± 14 days.

Description

The beavertail paddle is made up of a cherry, ash, cedar and ayous laminate. That guarantees a solid and relatively light combination. The pear-shaped oiled grip gives the Penobscot a pleasant and smooth feel. The beavertail paddle is available with a semi-gloss varnished or an oiled finish.

Which size?

Sizing the paddle is best done on the water in your own canoe. The length of the shaft is dependent on your seating position, the height of the seats and the freeboard of the canoe. Sit in the canoe and measure the vertical distance from your horizontally outreached hand to the waterline. This measurement matches the distance from a paddle’s grip to the throat, where the paddle shaft meets the blade.

On land, trying out a paddle: sit down on a flat surface. Hold the paddle upside down, place the grip between your legs. The throat of the paddle should be between your eyes. Without a paddle at hand, measure the distance between your bottom and your eyes.
