Day trip on the Dender River

The Dender used to be one of the most polluted rivers of Belgium but that has been reversed in recent years and now the water quality is back up to standard. It has improved favorably and it has turn back into a rich fishing water. On summer days you can see dozens of carp warming up just beyond the water surface. Nature, towns, villages and industry alternate. Mostly it’s very quiet on the water, but the towpath along the banks is eagerly used by cyclists and cycling tourists. Canoeing on the Dender is accessible to all paddlers.
